'The Scarry' 59x82cm, acrylic on board. Portrait of beautiful human and muse Julian Scarry.
More exploration of the idea of muse, voyeurism and role reversal in familiar poses and dynamics. The idea of how sexuality, control and submission is read when the subject is male and the painter is female. I chose an open provocative stance which still feels like formal portraiture. I really enjoyed painting flesh and the love bite- would love to paint more! Film references act as an ambiguous guide to read the subject, and sweeties as a symbol of cultivated seduction-saccharine and knowing.
